Bitter Melon

Ever heard the saying - “bitter is better” - Bitter melon Indian heirloom variety. Daily juice works wonders for blood sugar #diabetes I like it stir fried though my Farmress Ashley likes it steamed. Any which way, it is an acquired taste well worth the bitter trouble!

In traditional medicine of India, different parts of the plant are used as treatments for diabetes (particularly Polypeptide-p, an insulin analogue), and as a stomachic, laxative, antibilious, emetic, anthelmintic agent, for the treatment of cough, respiratory diseases, skin diseases, wounds, ulcer, gout, and rheumatism.

Bitter Melon has a number of uses including cancer prevention, treatment of diabetes, fever, HIV and AIDS, and infections.

In 2017, the University of Peradeniya researchers revealed that bitter gourd seeds can be potentially used to destroy cancer cells and they were successfully administered to patients in Cancer Unit.
